Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit SEIU Local 615 Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: SEIU Local 615, New England's janitors union, is currently negotiating a new contract for 10,000 building services workers covered under the master contract negotiated in 2002. Our bargaining committee is negotiating with an association consisting of the various cleaning companies involved. In 2002, janitors across the region went on strike to win higher standards and the ability to support their families. The community joined with the janitors during that strike to demand fairer working conditions because when workers cannot bring their children to the doctor or put food on the table, it hurts everyone. As we entered the final week of the contract, the contractors' best wage offer was a raise of 30 cents per hour per year in downtown Boston, and 10 cents in the outer suburbs. They said no to access to family health care coverage. They said no to access to full-time jobs. Meanwhile, there are reports of unfair labor practices, including unfair intimidation of workers. To our hardworking members, many of whom labor in several jobs just to scrape by, this offer was an insult. Janitors know they deserve better than 10 cents a year. With only a few days left of negotiation, it's time for New England cleaning contractors to get serious. They now have a clear choice: They can stop their unfair labor practices and offer New England Janitors a reasonable package, or they can drive our region to a crisis reminiscent of 2002. We don't want to relive that experience, and neither do the contractors. But we're ready, willing and able to do whatever it takes to win Justice for Janitors. Please take a moment to send a message to the New England Maintenance Contractors Association, and ask them to do the right thing. By clicking "send," you will send a fax to the members of the contractors association who will be deciding what their offers are.
