The short explanation of this alert was:

Disparity Threatens Staffing and Nurse Recruitment and Retention in State Facilities

The Commonwealth has set varying start rates for wages across the state as their approach to the issue of nurse recruitment and retention.  This “band-aid” approach has not resolved the issue.  Many facilities remain understaffed due to the inability to recruit or retain nurses.

We have submitted a comprehensive recruitment and retention proposal that the Commonwealth has neglected to meet and discuss with us.

We need to move the Commonwealth to set a meeting date in order for our proposals to be discussed and our concerns addressed.

Our fellow members at Danville State Hospital have already taken the initiative and have sent a membership letter to their local representative and received immediate results!  Their local representative contacted the Department of Public Welfare requesting information an updates, drawing a written response the Department of Public Welfare.

But it affects everyone -- we all need to get involved.  This type of momentum and support from our legislators is critical and needs to continue. Send the letter below (or write your own in the space provided) to your representative today!
