We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit SEIU Local 199 Action Center.

The short explanation of this alert was:

According to recent studies, patient outcomes are directly related to nurse to patient ratios.  Patient care will suffer and the shortage of nurses will continue to worsen so long as nurse to patient ratios are not increased to adequate levels.

In contract negotiations with the hospital, SEIU nurses have proposed establishing safe nurse to patient ratios.  An equal number of hospital managers and health care providers would meet to agree on what criteria must be used to establish nurse to patient ratios.  These criteria would be applied to each clinical setting and would have meaningful enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance.

If you are concerned with patient safety, and the growing shortage of nurses and other health care professionals, send your message to hospital administration today.
