We're sorry, this alert is no longer available.

The short explanation of this alert was:

The Marion County Board of Commissioners voted on January 22 to move ambulance services from the Marion County Emergency Medical Services Alliance into the Marion County Fire Department.

This decision will cause Marion County residents to face an unacceptable drop in the overall quality of services they receive. The decision unfairly places the safety of every Marion County resident behind the County Commission’s concern for their bottom line figures.

When announcing the results of their study, the Board of County Commissioners EMSA Task Force stated that EMSA should remain a separate agency to maintain the highest level of services.  The Task Force also stated that if the commissioners wanted to try to save money, they should combine EMSA with the fire department. So the Commissioners based their decision on saving money, and not on maintaining the highest level of services.

This move is an unfair attack on the safety of every Marion County resident and will mean substantial hardships for the EMS professionals of EMSA as well.  If forced to join the fire department, many of these men and women will lose seniority and be forced to essentially begin their career in Marion County all over again.

Please immediately send a fax or email to your County Commissioners and tell them that your safety is more important than the bottom line.  Tell them not to move emergency services from the Marion County Emergency Medical Services Alliance into the Marion County Fire Department.

We appreciate your support!
