Head Start, the nation's oldest and most successful early childhood development program, is under attack in Congress. For years, a group of politicians has tried to dismantle Head Start and for years SEIU members have fought back. Since 1965, more than 20 million at-risk children have benefited from Head Start's emphasis on helping America's most vulnerable children get ready to learn.

The current reauthorization bill would takes away governing authority from parents , fails to provide the sufficient resources needed to fund continuing education requirements for staff and doesn't meet basic student needs. Two out of five preschool children (about 800,000) and 97% of infants and toddlers who qualify for Early Head Start cannot participate in the program simply because there are not enough resources invested in the program.
