So far, this fiscal year, state revenues have been close to the levels projected in the biennium budget. But the downturn in the national economy is beginning to be felt here in New Hampshire.
Governor Lynch has told his agency heads to plan for spending reductions in case state revenues fall during the next 18 months.
We know that state employees – the people providing the public services – are in the best position to suggest ways their agencies can save money. Employees know what works, and what doesn't work, what investments are needed now, and what expenditures can be cut or postponed.
So we are collecting budget-cutting ideas from state employees – and we will make sure the agency heads and the Governor receive the ideas and seriously consider them.
If you have any ideas about how your agency can save money during the next 18 months, please write them in the "letter" box, below. Then, "send this message" to our "State Employee Suggestion Box".
SEA staff will compile the ideas and report back to the membership. Then, members can make sure the ideas are considered by the appropriate state officials.
