If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit State Employees' Association of NH, SEIU Local 1984 Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: House Committee 'Playing Games' with our RetirementFor the past several months, SEA members have been trying to protect our retirement benefits from attacks that are camouflaged as 'reforms' pushed by the NH Municipal Association. The original Anti-Employee Retirement Bill (HB 1645) was passed by the House on March 18th. But the Senate ED&A Committee recognized bad ideas when they saw them - and through an amendment authored by Sen. Peter Burling, the Senate Committee completely changed HB 1645. The Senate ED&A version of HB 1645 has the same price-tag as the original version - but it does not harm retirees the way the original version would have. On May 6th, the House Executive Departments & Administration Committee pulled a fast one. They knew the Senate would not pass the Anti-Employee Retirement Bill, so the House ED&A Committee took a bill which the Senate had already passed (SB 463) and they 'amended' it by taking out the original text. Then, they inserted the Anti-Employee Retirement Bill into the shell of SB 463 - and voila! Here is the Anti-Employee Retirement Bill, brought to life again, this time as a bill that has already been passed by the Senate.
Before the House votes, please take the time to contact your Representatives and let them know the Legislature should not be playing games with our retirement benefits. Ask your Representatives to vote against SB 463, the Anti-Employee Retirement Bill reincarnated under a new name. Please use your home computer and home email address only. You should not contact Legislators on work time. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
